Protecting Our Communities from Drugs and Violent Crimes...
March 01, 2011

It is understood that serious drug crimes have serious consequences. Drugs bring violence and the use of weapons to our streets, endangering innocent bystanders.

Drugs fund organized crime, and are often produced in hazardous drug labs in our communities. That’s why our Government has introduced tough, but fair, legislation to crack down on these crimes and make our communities safer.

Our proposed legislation is stricter and would require jail time for certain drug trafficking-related offences through our Government’s bill, the Penalties for Organized Drug Crime Act.

Our Government understands that above all, Canadians are concerned about violent crime. This is why we’re continuing to work to keep Canadians safe, introducing legislation to keep multiple murderers safely behind bars, so that a ‘life’ sentence will actually mean ‘life’, for these most dangerous criminals.

These measures build on our strong record of standing up for law-abiding Canadians with laws that confront gun crime, protect young Canadians from sexual predators and keep dangerous criminals off our streets.
