2010 was a great year for Canada. In 2011 our number one priority will continue to be the economy, protecting jobs and providing economic stability and financial security for Canadians.
Canada is leading the economic recovery with:
- five consecutive quarters of economic growth
- over 440,000 new jobs created in the last year and a half
- a financial system again ranked the soundest in the world; and both the IMF and OECD projecting Canada to have the strongest average growth for the G7 in the years ahead
Canada is expanding its markets by negotiating trade deals with:
- Korea, Ukraine, Turkey, the Caribbean Community, the European Union, India, Colombia, Jordan, Panama, Dominican Republic, Morocco, China, Singapore and others
Canada has introduced legislation to:
- protect children against sexual predators and crack down on child pornography
- crack down on human smugglers who abuse the generosity of our immigration system
- end sentence discounts for multiple homicides, putting a stop to early parole for murderers
- reduce the tax burden for families by introducing the Canada Child Tax Credit
- introducing the Standing Up for Victims of White Collar Crime Act, which would impose tougher sentences on those convicted of fraud
- passing of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act
