Canada’s New Government is taking action now to protect our environment and the health of Canadians from greenhouse gases and air pollution. Setting targets and outlining our plan for the years ahead allows industry to make informed decisions on how to make this transition. We put in place an achievable plan that will not sacrifice Canadians’ jobs. We are giving industry access to flexible tools to meet their targets in a cost effective way. This includes in-house reductions, a one-time early action credit, emissions trading and investments in technology that will deliver reductions now and in the long term.

Climate change and air pollution are serious problems for all Canadians and they require leadership. Improved energy efficiency, greater competitiveness, and more opportunity to sell Canadian environmental products and know-how abroad means long-term economic benefits for Canada and more jobs for Canadians.

Our actions will ensure our economy continues to grow and prosper. The estimated benefits as of 2015 from the reduced risk of death and illness associated with our air quality improvements are over $6 billion annually.
