Many Calgarians have expressed concern over deteriorating international economic forecasts. Although there is growing global economic uncertainty, Canada is in the best fiscal position of any large industrial nation to weather the current economic turmoil.

The proactive steps taken by the government in our budgets and fiscal updates have produced a record of lower taxes and balanced budgets. As a result of the real leadership shown by our Conservative Government, businesses and workers can continue to plan for the future with confidence.

We are also providing tax relief for Canadian consumers by retroactively reducing taxes, as well as cutting the GST from 7% to 5%. Canadians will soon be able to save even more through the Conservative Government’s new Tax-Free Savings Accounts, which will allow every taxpayer to invest up $5000 per year tax free.

Thanks to the strong leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservative Government we will continue to move forward with lower taxes, balanced budgets and a stronger economy.
