The Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control…
September 12, 2007
All of us have been touched by the ravages of cancer. The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that over 150,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with new cases of cancer this year. The Society estimates that more than 70,000 Canadians will pass away from cancer in 2007.

Prime Minister Harper recently announced a new partnership between the federal government and the Cancer Society to launch the new Canadian Strategy for Cancer Control.

The partnership, with funding contributions from the government of over $50 Million per year, will focus on a number of key priorities in the fight to defeat cancer. These funds will be used to improve screening, prevention, and research activities. It will also work to enhance coordination among governments at both the federal and provincial levels, and cancer advocacy groups.

It is our hope that these investments will lay the foundation for the eventual discovery of a cure that will finally defeat cancer.
