Tamil Refugee Claimants…

The arrival on our western coast of the freighter “MV Sun Sea” has focused the attention of Canadians on a growing concern:  Canada is becoming an international target for human smugglers, human trafficking and phony refugee claimants.

These are crimes and cannot be tolerated.  Not only is human smuggling illegal and dangerous, it also victimizes refugees who seek to come to Canada by legal means.

Canada has always honoured our obligation under International Convention to protect the oppressed and has accepted our fair share of legitimate refugees with compassion and generosity – a beacon of hope in a trouble world.

Regrettably, our good will has been taken advantage of and abused by too many illegitimate refugee claimants who have relied on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms supported by sympathetic Courts to “jump the queue” and “beat the system.” 

As Parliament resumes this Fall, your government is introducing stronger, more effective legislation to protect our borders and prevent these abuses. 
Canadians have had enough!
