Parliament Set to Resume
September 06, 2006

Delivering on our Promises…

You voted for change, to clean up government, lower taxes, security for families, and to protect our environment. Canada’s new Conservative Government has delivered on our key election pledges. During the campaign we focused on priorities and, once elected; we have delivered:
  • A balanced budget that featured twenty-eight tax cuts, including a reduction in the GST to 6%.
  • Bill C-2, The Accountability Act, which cracks down on corruption, giving value to taxpayers, returns honesty, integrity and accountability to Government.
  • A Universal Childcare Plan - $1200 for every child under 6 paid directly to parents - to provide them with choice and support in raising their children.
  • Several anti-crime bills to make our communities safer, including tougher sentences for violent and repeat offenders, a commitment to put more police on the street and to improve the security of our borders.
Parliament Resumes...

After a busy summer in our ridings, Members of Parliament return to Ottawa to resume sitting on September 18 and our government will continue to deliver results for Canadians. Our legislative agenda will include:
  • A “Made-in-Canada” Environmental program to reduce pollution and protect our land, air and water.
  • Further reforms to our justice system to limit statutory release or house arrest and increase the use of “dangerous-offender” designations.
Fixing the fiscal imbalance to ensure that provincial governments have the resources and clarity they need to deliver the services Canadians want.
